Reasons for why motorcycle accidents occur is discussed on the “Motorcycle Accidents And Fatalities” page. As seen on that page, as well as seen in various Southern Illinois motorcycle accidents, such crashes occur for many reasons.
Loss of motorcycle control remains a foremost cause of fatal Illinois motorcycle accidents. For many reasons motorcycles can become unstable. This instability, speed and weight issues can lead to a crash.
While some loss of control accidents are the fault of the rider, such as riding too fast for conditions, other such crashes are due to other factors. For instance, a road hazard, such as gravel or grass clippings on the roadway, can both lead to a loss of traction. This loss of traction can cause instability and a crash. There have been many Illinois fatal motorcycle crashes that have been caused by such road hazards, which by their nature can be (very) unpredictable.
