Brain injuries can be among the most serious injuries that can result from a motorcycle accident. There are a broad range of brain injuries, and the effect that they have on one’s health and ability to properly function varies significantly. Some serious brain injuries lead to death, either immediately or after a delay. For non-fatal head trauma, other serious brain injuries can lead to significant short-term and long-term impairments. Often, the medical care and costs for treating brain injuries is (highly) substantial.
As seen in many Southern Illinois motorcycle accidents that have been summarized on this site, head trauma caused by a motorcycle accident is somewhat common. On this site, various aspects of brain injuries are discussed on the “Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) In Southern Illinois Accidents” page. One of the best ways to possibly avoid serious brain injuries is to wear a motorcycle helmet. The benefits of wearing a motorcycle helmet is discussed on the “Illinois Motorcyclist Safety And Helmet Use” page.
