Fatal Southern Illinois Motorcycle Collision In Central City

One of the foremost reasons for a fatal Southern Illinois motorcycle collision is because motorists “fail to see” motorcyclists.  This inability to “see” and avoid a collision with a motorcycle often is made worse if the motorist is impaired either by alcohol or drug use.

There was a fatal Southern Illinois motorcycle collision Tuesday (May 15, 2018) evening in Central City.  The collision occurred at 5:21 p.m.  The motorcycle accident involved a collision between a motorcycle and pickup truck.

An excerpt regarding the fatal crash, from the May 16, 2018 wjbdradio.com article titled “Odin Motorcyclist Killed In Crash Involving an Alleged Drunk Pickup Truck Driver“:

Central City Police identify the victim as Jerry Clarkson of O’Fallon Street. Police says the preliminary investigation shows Clarkson was driving his cycle northbound on North Broadway (U.S. 51) when a pickup driven by 58-year-old Thomas Joy of Woods Lane in Centralia pulled from an alleyway near the Broadway Tavern in front of him. Clarkson then crashed into the pickup truck.

Clarkson, 65, of Odin, died in the process of being flown to a hospital.

Joy was not injured during the accident.   Following the accident, Joy was ticketed for driving under the influence (DUI).
