“Head-On Collision” In Massac County Leads To Three Fatalities And Others Injured

There was a fatal Southern Illinois car accident Thursday (January 11, 2018) along U.S. 45 in Massac County.  Three people died as a result of the accident and others were injured.  The accident involved a “head-on collision” that happened following a loss of vehicle control.

An excerpt regarding the fatal collision, from the stltoday.com article of January 12, 2018 titled “3 killed, including two children, in southern Illinois crash“:

Illinois State Police said Rachel E Killian, 23, of Marion, was on northbound U.S. 45 in Massac County on Thursday when she went off the right side of the road. Police say she overcorrected, swerving into oncoming traffic and colliding head-on with a car. An SUV hit that car.

According to the Illinois State Police, Rachel Killian and a 1-year-old in the SUV, a Kia Soul, died in the accident.  A 3-year-old also in the SUV later died from accident injuries.  Other passengers were also injured and hospitalized.
The driver of the other car involved in the “head-on collision” was identified as Karla R. Reichert, 57, of Karnak.  She was taken to an out-of-state hospital for treatment of severe injuries.
