Fatal Mt. Vernon Motorcycle Accident

There was a fatal motorcycle accident Sunday morning (May 21, 2017) in downtown Mt. Vernon.

The accident occurred at 10:19 a.m., at the intersection of Main Street and 13th Street.

The accident involved a collision between a motorcycle, ridden by Frankie D. Belmont, 56, of Bluford, and a Cadillac SRX, driven by George G. Loker, 81, of Keenes.

An excerpt regarding the collision, from the May 22, 2017 Mt. Vernon Register-News article titled “Bluford man dies in motorcycle crash“:

Loker was traveling south on 13th Street when he stopped at the stop sign and then allegedly proceeded south across the intersection. Belmont was traveling west on Main Street and struck the driver’s door of Loker’s vehicle.

As a result of the accident, Belmont was ejected from the motorcycle.  He was taken to Crossroads Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Loker and the passenger in the Cadillac SRX were both taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for medical treatment.
