Lawsuit Concerning Rollover Accident In Bethalto

As discussed on the “Southern Illinois Rollover Accidents” page, there are many conditions and characteristics that may cause a vehicle to rollover during an accident.  Vehicle rollover accidents often lead to serious accident injuries – and fatalities – due to the strong forces and impacts that often accompany these types of crashes.  Serious injuries are especially likely if the vehicle occupants are not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, as there is the possibility of various serious accident injuries that can occur due to a partial or full vehicle occupant ejection (i.e. when the vehicle occupant(s) is thrown from the vehicle.)  The benefits of wearing a seat belt are further discussed on the “Seat Belt Usage And Traffic Safety Benefits” page.

A recent personal injury lawsuit regarding alleged injuries caused during a vehicle rollover in Bethalto is discussed in the Madison Record article of January 16, 2017, titled “Passenger alleges injuries from rollover Bethalto collision.”

An excerpt from the article, in which Derrick L. Courtland is the plaintiff in the lawsuit, and was a passenger in the vehicle that rolled over:

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 12, 2015, he was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Winkler. They were traveling southbound on Birch Drive, approaching its intersection with South Moreland Road in Bethalto, when suddenly Winkler’s vehicle left the road, rolled several times and came to rest on its roof.

Courtland claims he suffered injuries to his head, neck and spine.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to operate his vehicle at a safe speed for the condition and failed to keep proper lookout for other vehicles on the road.
