There was a fatal motorcycle accident Monday (October 17, 2016) afternoon on Illinois Route 100 (also known as Great River Road) in Jersey County.
According to the Illinois State Police (ISP), a preliminary traffic accident investigation indicates the fatal accident happened at approximately 1:00 p.m., as a motorcycle (a 2000 Ultra Custom) was traveling northbound on Illinois Route 100. At that time, the motorcycle struck a 2001 Ford truck that was attempting to cross Illinois Route 100 at Lockhaven Road.
During the collision, both the motorcyclist and passenger were ejected from the motorcycle. The motorcyclist, identified as Keith Berry, 58, of Caseyville, died at the accident scene.
The motorcycle passenger, identified as Deborah Sereday, 55, of Caseyville, was flown to Barnes Jewish Hospital (St. Louis) in critical condition.

The driver of the truck, Michael Heitzig, 24, of Jerseyville, was issued a citation for failure to yield at an intersection.
