Man Dies Following Highway “Head-On” Collision

There was a fatal car accident Sunday (October 2, 2016) in Dunklin County.  The accident involved one vehicle crossing the center line and hitting another vehicle in a “head-on” collision.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened at 5:21 p.m., as a car was driving southbound on Highway 153, just south of Holcomb.  At that time, the 1995 Lincoln Continental crossed the center line and collided with a 2004 Ford Mustang in a frontal collision.

The driver of the Mustang was identified as Caleb S. Wilcox, 18, of Holcomb, MO.  He was flown to a hospital in Memphis and later died from his accident injuries.

The driver of the Lincoln was identified as Margarito Gallegos, 32, of Columbia, MO.  He was taken to a hospital for treatment of his accident injuries, which were described as being “moderate” in nature.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, neither man was wearing a seat belt at the time of the “head-on” collision.

It appears as if the reason for the car driving into the opposite lane is not currently known and/or publicly disclosed.

Additional details and possible updates concerning this fatal collision can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the October 3, 2016 article (with video) titled “Head-on crash kills Holcomb man” as well as the October 3 article titled “2 killed in separate weekend MO crashes.”
