There was a fatal multi-vehicle accident on I-55 in Logan County on Sunday afternoon (July 31, 2016). The accident involved a semi truck and five other vehicles.
According to the Illinois State Police (ISP) the accident happened at 3:02 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-55, near milepost 138.
At that time, in a construction zone, a semi truck hit a Honda minivan. A “chain-reaction” crash then occurred, with the Honda then stiking four other vehicles.
Two young girls in the minivan, Abby and Maya Roock, ages 2 and 4, were pronounced dead at the accident scene. Both were in child safety seats at the time of the crash.
Another girl in the minivan was taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Bloomington. She is listed in critical condition.
