Fatal Pedestrian Accident In Carbondale

There was a fatal pedestrian accident Saturday night (December 5, 2015) in Carbondale, Illinois.

According to the Carbondale Police Department, police responded to the accident scene – approximately 50 yards west of East Main Street and Reeds Station Road – at 8:25 p.m.  Two 18-year-old men had been struck by a car westbound on East Main Street, as they went onto the roadway from the north.

The two pedestrians were taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for treatment of life-threatening injuries.  One of the men died at that hospital; the other man died after being flown to a St. Louis hospital.

The driver of the car was not injured during this fatal pedestrian accident.

The City of Carbondale Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Southern Illinois University Department of Public Safety, The Williamson County Sheriff’s Department, the Jackson County Ambulance Service and the Jackson County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation into this Southern Illinois fatal pedestrian accident is ongoing.
