Fatal Franklin County Motorcycle Collision With Deer

One of the potential hazards that motorcyclists in Southern Illinois face is that of deer running in front of them in the roadway.  While this type of accident can happen at any time, there are various times in which such accidents are more likely to happen.

While Illinois motorcycle accidents involving deer are not high in number, they nonetheless do occur, and a number of them have been fatal.

On Saturday night (November 7, 2015) there was a fatal accident in Franklin County, Illinois involving a deer running out in front of a motorcycle on Illinois 14 near Urbain Road.

The motorcyclist was unable to avoid hitting the deer.  While the motorcyclist, William Burnett, 31, of Buckner, suffered minor injuries during the collision, the female passenger, Jana Miles, 40 of Whittington, later died from injuries sustained during the collision.

An excerpt from the November 8, 2015 kfvs12.com article (with video) titled “Woman killed in Franklin Co., IL motorcycle crash was on way to her wedding reception“:

Miles and her new husband William Burnett had just gotten married and were traveling to their reception when the crash occurred.

Additional details and possible updates can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the kfvs12.com article mentioned above as well as thesouthern.com article (with remembrances) of November 9 titled “Woman marries the love of her life, dies in motorcycle wreck on way to reception.”
