According to the Illinois State Police (ISP) the accident happened on eastbound Illinois 158 just after 7:00 a.m. At that time, a motorcyclist failed to properly negotiate a turn, and the motorcycle ran off the roadway and hit a stop sign. The motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle during the accident.
Passing motorists, and later paramedics, were not able to save Hern’s life. He was declared dead at the accident scene.
The motorcyclist was identified by the St. Clair County Coroner as Bryan Hern, 24.
The accident remains under investigation.
