Fatal I-57 Motorcycle Accident In Williamson County

There was a Southern Illinois fatal motorcycle accident Tuesday evening (April 14, 2015) on Interstate 57 (I-57) in Williamson County.

According to the Illinois State Police (ISP), the accident happened at approximately 9:45 p.m., on I-57 northbound.

At Herrin Road, a motorcycle attempted to merge onto I-57.

Then, according to the April 15 wpsdlocal6.com article titled “Motorcycle rider killed after hitting two semis on I-57“:

A motorcycle was merging onto I-57 from Herrin Road and failed to yield the right of way to the semi in the right lane. The driver of the semi hit his brakes to avoid hitting the motorcycle.

The motorcycle continued into the left lane, where it hit the semi in that lane.

During the course of the accident, the motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was identified as James Randolph, 41, of Christopher.  He was killed during the crash.

Neither of the semi truck drivers were injured during the crash.

According to the ISP, Randolph did not yield the right of way when he was attempting to enter the interstate.

The accident remains under investigation.
