Bicyclist Dies After Accident In Carbondale, Illinois

There was a fatal bicycle accident on Friday, November 14, 2014, in Carbondale, Illinois.

The accident happened as a bicyclist was riding along Old Route 13 Friday afternoon, when police say that a driver went off the road and hit the bicyclist.

The bicyclist was identified as Matthew Dierker, 33, of Carbondale.  He died from his accident injuries on Saturday, after being taken to a St. Louis hospital.

The driver who police say hit Dierker was identified as Seth Loyd, 22.

Loyd has been charged with seven counts, including reckless homicide and aggravated DUI. He is in custody at Jackson County Jail, awaiting a Dec. 11 preliminary hearing.
