There was a fatal car accident in Centreville, Illinois late Wednesday night, October 22, 2014.
According to the Illinois State Police (ISP) the crash happened at approximately 10:40 p.m., and involved a Centreville Police car and another car in the 5800 block of Bond Avenue.
The accident happened as the Centreville Police car was heading west on Bond Avenue, with its lights and sirens on, responding to a call. When it attempted to pass a car that was making a left-hand turn into Touchette Hospital, the police car struck the other car, at which point the other car ran into a utility pole.
The driver of this other car was identified as Richard Hester, 30, of Caseyville. He died of injuries sustained during the accident after being taken to the hospital.
The Centreville Police officer suffered minor injuries for which he was treated on the scene of the accident.
This Southern Illinois accident remains under investigation by the ISP.
