Fatal Single-Vehicle Accident In Washington County, Illinois

There was a fatal Southern Illinois vehicle accident Saturday (July 19, 2014) in Washington County, Illinois.

This accident happened as a man was driving a pickup truck northbound on County Highway 4, north of Addieville.

According to the Washington County Coroner’s Office, the driver failed to stop at a stop sign at State Route 177 and continued north, hitting a ditch.  During the crash, the driver was ejected from the pickup truck and trapped underneath the truck.

The driver was identified as Cody E. Northington, 24, of Hoyleton.  He was pronounced dead at the accident scene by the Washington County Coroner at 3:31 a.m.

According to the coroner’s office, alcohol is suspected in the deadly crash.

This fatal crash continues to be under investigation by the Washington County Sherriff’s Office, the Washington County Coroner’s Office, and the Illinois State Police (ISP).
