Fatal Car Accident On I-57

There was a fatal car accident on northbound Interstate 57 (I-57) early Saturday morning (June 21, 2014) in which a driver has been charged with DUI.

According to the Illinois State Police (ISP) the accident happened at approximately 1:58 a.m. Saturday, at mile post 245, north of Champaign.

An excerpt from the June 21, 2014 News-Gazette article titled “Updated:  Alcohol a factor in crash that killed Rantoul man” :

Preliminary information is that driver of the car was headed north on I-57 near Thomasboro when he lost control, left the road to the right, and hit a guardrail. The car came back on the road and flipped, hitting a pickup truck as it overturned.

A passenger in the car, Eric Lowery, 34, of Rantoul, died at the accident scene.

The accident remains under investigation by the ISP.
