I-74 “Head-On” Crash Injures Four People

There was a three-vehicle accident involving a semi truck on Illinois Interstate 74 (I-74) today (April 3, 2014.)  Four people were injured as a result of this accident.

According to the Illinois State Police, the accident happened at approximately 6:32 a.m., when a semi traveling westbound at the 199 mile marker was buffeted by a sudden crosswind during a rain storm.

The truck went into the median, broke through a barrier and then crossed into the eastbound lanes and collided “head-on” with two eastbound vehicles.

One of the vehicles hit was an Illinois Department of Transportation pickup truck.  Another was a FedEx semi truck.

All of the four people in the three vehicles had to be extricated from their vehicles, and were taken to Carle Foundation Hospital.

The accident remains under investigation.
