The was a fatal vehicle accident Monday (October 14, 2013) in Benton, Illinois.
An excerpt from the the kfvs.com article of October 15, 2013 titled “Deadly Franklin County crash being investigated” :
According to the Benton Police Department, 76-year-old Cecil H. Bennett was driving north on Grand Street when he failed to stop at an intersection and crossed over Route 14.
Bennett’s truck then crossed a deep ditch, hit a parked car and continued until it came to rest in a ditch northeast of the Fred’s Store parking lot.
Bennett, of West Frankfort, was pronounced dead at Franklin Hospital.
A passenger in the truck, Bennett’s wife Helen, was also taken to Franklin Hospital before being airlifted to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
The accident remains under investigation.
