Fatal Car Collision In Royalton, Illinois

There was a collision between a car and semi truck in Royalton, Illinois on Tuesday, January 15, that lead to the death of one person.

The accident happened at 2:30 a.m.

According to accounts, a semitrailer driven by Leslie Fred, 55,  of Murphysboro was traveling northbound through downtown Royalton.

As he approached a curve at South Main Street and Third (Illinois 149), Fred saw a car traveling southbound at a high rate of speed.  The car struck the truck’s trailer and then caught on fire and exploded.

The driver of the car was killed during the collision.  However, the driver has yet to be publicly identified.

The accident is under investigation by both Illinois State Police and the coroner’s office.
