Fatal Car Accident In Saline County, Illinois

There was a fatal car accident Saturday night, December 1, on Illinois 145, south of Reynolds Cemetery Road.  The accident happened around 8:00 p.m.

The couple involved in the accident were Deana L. Smith, 49, and her husband, Darryl G. Smith, 50, of Stonefort, Illinois.

Illinois State Police report Deana L. Smith, 49, of Stonefort, Ill., was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer south on 145 when, for an unknown reason, the SUV ran off the road and struck a guardrail. Police say the impact caused the vehicle to go into a spin and run off the road where it struck a culvert and rolled.

Deana Smith was thrown from the vehicle and died at the accident scene.  Darryl G. Smith was flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville where he died.
