There was a fatal car accident on Thursday afternoon, November 15, in Madison County, Illinois. The accident happened on Illinois Route 143, and involved a car and a pickup truck.
The car, driven by Carol S. Garrett, 65, of Alton, was going west on Illinois Route 143. As she approached the Illinois Route 255, she had a green light. However, for some unknown reason, Garrett slowed or stopped. She was then “rear ended” by a pickup truck driven by Philip A. Cain, 28, of Bethalto.
A passenger in the backseat of Garrett’s car, Nell S. Johnston, 65, of Alton, died at the accident scene. Cain and Garrett were taken to Alton Memorial with minor injuries.
