The plaintiff, who was the front-seat passenger in the car, suffered a wrist injury to his right arm when the deployed airbag hit his arm. The plaintiff had about 2-3 months of post-accident treatment for this wrist fracture. No invasive surgery was ever needed. The treatment consisted of pain medications, wearing a hand cast, physical therapy, and closed reduction non-invasive outpatient surgery. The defense was allowed to introduce into evidence that the plaintiff had a recent felony criminal conviction.

Plaintiff’s medical bills were about $21,000. Anthony Elman’s last settlement demand was $50,000.

Motorcycle Collision In Marion Leads To Death of Motorcyclist

There was a fatal motorcycle accident Friday afternoon (April 22, 2016) in Marion.

According to Marion Police, they responded to the accident at approximately 2:40 p.m. Friday afternoon.  A collision had occurred between a car and motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle during the collision.  He was taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center for treatment of his accident injuries.  He was later pronounced deceased.

Fatal Single-Car Crash In Washington County

There was a fatal car accident Tuesday morning (April 19, 2016) in Washington County.

According to the Illinois State Police (ISP) a preliminary investigation reveals that on Tuesday morning, the car was driving westbound on Illinois Route 15, about a mile east of Washington County Road 17, on Tuesday morning.

At that time, the vehicle left the roadway on a curve, and then the driver “over-corrected,” at which point the vehicle crossed over both lanes and ran off the road on the south side of the road and overturned.

The driver, identified as John L. Shrum, a 76, of Mt. Vernon, was flown to a hospital for treatment of his accident injuries.

The passenger, Joyce Arlene Shrum, 75, was pronounced dead at the accident scene by the Washington County Coroner.

Fatal Three-Vehicle Collision In Randolph County

There was a fatal three-vehicle accident Monday (April 18, 2016) in Randolph County.

According to the Illinois State Police (ISP) the accident happened at approximately 8:55 a.m. on Route 150, east of Route 4, near Steeleville.

At that time, a Chevrolet Cavalier traveling westbound on Route 150 veered (for an unspecified reason) into the eastbound lane, and struck the trailer of a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado.  Then, the Chevrolet Cavalier struck a Freightliner semi truck, that was behind the Chevrolet Silverado, in a “head-on” collision.

The driver of the Chevrolet Cavalier was identified as Lynette A. Koch, 39, of Cutler.  She was pronounced dead at the accident scene by the Randolph County Coroner.  The passenger in this car was identified as Shawn Michael Williams Farmer, 20, of Cutler, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his accident injuries.  He died at the hospital.

The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was not injured during the accident.  The driver of the semi suffered unspecified injuries.

Fatal Motorcycle Loss Of Control In Jackson County

There was a fatal Illinois motorcycle accident on Route 149 (near Spillway Road) on Sunday (April 3, 2016) in Jackson County.  The accident happened roughly five miles west of Murphysboro.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident at approximately 5:30 p.m.

According to findings from a preliminary investigation, the motorcyclist, identified as William Alexander, 49, of Murphysboro, was driving east when he lost control of the motorcycle and the bike left the roadway.

Fatal Motorcycle Collision On Illinois 161 Near Belleville

There was a fatal motorcycle accident on Illinois 161 near Belleville on Friday morning, April 1, 2016.

The accident happened on Carlyle Avenue (Illinois 161) near Shiloh Station Road, according to the Illinois State Police (ISP).  The accident happened at approximately 6:00 a.m.

According to the Illinois State Police, the accident involved a motorcyclist heading west on Carlyle and a Nissan Armada SUV heading east.  A collision occurred between the two vehicles when the SUV attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Shiloh Station Road in front of the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, identified as Douglas Landers, 23, of O’Fallon, was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville for treatment of his accident injuries.  According to the St. Clair County’s Coroner’s Office, he was declared dead at 6:42 a.m.
