The treatment consisted of pain medications, wearing a hand cast, physical therapy, and closed reduction non-invasive outpatient surgery. The defense was allowed to introduce into evidence that the plaintiff had a recent felony criminal conviction.

Plaintiff’s medical bills were about $21,000. Anthony Elman’s last settlement demand was $50,000.

Two-Vehicle Accident On Illinois Route 15 Near St. Libory

There was a Southern Illinois vehicle accident Wednesday morning (August 13, 2014) on Illinois 15 near St. Libory.  This traffic collision involved a car and semi truck.

According to the Illinois State Police (ISP) this accident happened at approximately 8:30 a.m. as a 21-year-old woman from Marissa was driving her car south on Venedy Road.  She then apparently (according to at least one news source) tried to turn westbound onto Illinois 15, and in doing so pulled out in front of the semi truck.   The semi truck swerved to avoid hitting the car and landed in a ditch.

The driver of a semi-truck, said to be a 56-year-old man from Marissa, was critically injured during the accident and has been airlifted to a St. Louis hospital after being extracted from the truck.

The motorcycle accident happened on Illinois 13 near Harco Road.  Emergency responders were alerted to the accident at 7:45 a.m.

The accident happened as the motorcyclist and a SUV behind him were traveling eastbound, both in the right lane.

The motorcyclist was identified as Lance P. Avery, 60, of Creal Springs, Illinois.  The driver of the SUV was identified as Kim H. Fowler, 68, of Harrisburg, Illinois.

This accident happened as a man was driving a pickup truck northbound on County Highway 4, north of Addieville.

There was a Southern Illinois motorcycle accident Monday (July 7, 2014) in Shawneetown, Illinois.

This motorcycle accident happened at approximately 1:32 p.m. at the intersection of Lincoln Blvd. West and Illinois Route 13.

According to the Illinois State Police, based upon a preliminary investigation, the collision happened between a pickup truck and motorcycle (a “trike”) when the pickup truck, which was heading southbound on Lincoln Blvd. West, attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Illinois Route 13.  In doing so, the pickup truck went into the path of the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle during the collision.

He was identified as Michael L. Benns, 59, of Benton, Illinois.  He was flown via helicopter to an Evansville hospital with “major injuries.”

The driver of the pickup truck was identified as Danny L. Combs, 52, of Shawneetown.  He was not injured.

This accident remains under investigation, and charges are pending.

There was a fatal multi-vehicle accident on Monday night (June 30, 2014) in Williamson County, in Southern Illinois.  Three people were killed and a child injured during this accident.
